Book Talk/Review: The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins

I’d just like to talk about a book I picked up a couple of days ago from my local Chapters Book Store. The novel I’m talking about is called The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins. The Hunger Games is a young-adult science fiction novel. It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once stood. This is where a powerful government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol’s power.

Many of my friends have read this novel and suggested it. It may be one of my favorite fantasy/science fiction novels I have ever read. Susanne Collins does a great job with story and character development but how it is paced and written is really something to marvel at.  I will be reading the rest of the series which includes: Catching Fire and Mockingjay in the very new future. I recommend everyone look for this novel if you enjoy Harry Potter or any other fantasy/science fiction novels out there.
